English Description:

This project presents a new enhanced priority list (EPL) based method to solve large scale unit commitment problems, with specific focus on low demand. The EPL algorithm is set up based on a priority list of power plants. Plants are activated according to this list, while schedules are adapted to respect technical restrictions as minimum up and down times, and minimum operating points. The developed EPL algorithm is tested on a benchmark system which has been widely used in the literature. Optimization results and computation times of the algorithm are compared with values reported in the literature and with a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) approach. The developed EPL method turns out to be highly accurate and very fast. The simulation set up is further extended, to specifically focus on a setting with low volatile residual demand, e.g., as a result of high penetration of intermittent renewables.
