In this paper, the performance of a noise reduction method based on a local contrastmodification function, is evaluated on computer simulated and real phantomimages. First, a local contrast is computed for each pixel, depending on its neighborhoodstatistical properties. An optimal contrast modification function, meetingsome requirements that ensure noise reduction, is then applied.
